FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State men's basketball program has signed Jordan Brangers and Jack Schoemann to national letters, head coach Larry Eustachy announced today.
A native of Radcliff, Kentucky, Brangers is in his second season at South Plains College in Levelland, Texas. Last year, the 6-2 guard was rated as the No. 3 basketball prospect in the country by 247Sports after earning NJCAA first team All-American honors. He set a single-season school record with 151 three-pointers on 46.2 percent made and averaged 20.9 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game. As a team, South Plains went 32-2 on the 2016-17 season and finished third in the National Junior College Association's (NJCAA) national championship tournament.
"Jordan is the best JUCO guard in the country," head coach Larry Eustachy said. "He is really, really skilled and has the ability to not only score but impact the game on the defensive end. We are excited he has signed."
He follows the footsteps of former South Plains players to CSU – 2015 Honorable Mention All-Mountain West forward Stanton Kidd and 2017 First Team All-MW forward Emmanuel Omogbo as well as current CSU Rams senior forward Che Bob and sophomore guard Raquan Mitchell.
Schoemann is a long, 6-7 wing player who has the ability to shoot effectively from the perimeter, handle the ball and rebound. Heading into his senior year at Shawnee Mission East High School in Prairie Village, Kan., the southpaw is coming off a 2016-17 season that had him earn Honorable Mention All-Sunflower League honors. He helped the Lancers to the sub-state championship game and had a season-high 30-points in a win over Olathe South earlier in the year. Schoemann also spent the past spring and summer playing club basketball with Mokan KC. His father Christopher played basketball, baseball and golf at Whittier College in California in the mid-1980s.
"I really like Jack," Eustachy said. "I have known his dad forever so that helped in knowing the quality of kid he is. He can really shoot it and is intelligent, so that, along with growing up in a family with a basketball background, makes him coachable. We are glad he will be with us next season."
The Rams open the 2017-18 season at home on Friday, Nov. 10, hosting Sacramento State at 7:30 pm. Season and single-game tickets are available online at CSURams.com/tickets or at the CSU Ticket Office on campus.
