Stone is the first athlete in program history to receive the prestigious academic honor
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Senior defender Janelle Stone of the Colorado State women's soccer team has been named Academic All-District by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The organization announced the recipients of the honor on Thursday.
Stone, who has a 3.90 grade-point average in civil engineering, was named to her district's first team. This marks the first time a Colorado State women's soccer student-athlete has received CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors.
To be eligible for Academic All-District recognition, student-athletes must have legitimate credentials in athletics and have a grade-point average of at least 3.30. Following a nomination period, the recipients of Academic All-District honors are then determined by a vote of the district's sports information directors. Colorado State student-athletes are designated for CoSIDA's district seven.
Stone's Academic All-District accolade adds to an already impressive list of academic honors at Colorado State. The senior is a three-time Mountain West Scholar-Athlete (2016, 2015, 2014), as well as a three-time Academic All-Mountain West honoree (2016, 2015, 2014). Her performance in the classroom also helped CSU earn the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for the 2015-16 and 2016-17 academic years.
As a team captain this past season, the Honolulu, Hawai'I native appeared in all 19 matches and played the third-most minutes on the team (1,642). She finished the 2017 season with four points, including a goal in the 84th minute in the Rams' match at New Mexico on Oct. 20.
