FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State softball team started its New Mexico series on Saturday afternoon, splitting the opening day. The Rams allowed four-unanswered runs in game one of the series, which led to a 5-3 loss in 10 frames before taking care of business in game two with an 8-0 win in five innings. The series opener was originally scheduled to start on Friday afternoon, but inclement weather forced it to be moved to a Saturday doubleheader.

As of recent memory, the Rams scored in the first inning – six of their last seven games – after loading the bases for Danni Klein who drew a RBI walk.

New Mexico tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the third after a RBI single.

Colorado State retook the lead in the bottom of the fifth after a lead-off double by Haley Donaldson and a RBI single by Corina Gamboa. Amber Nelson followed with a single to center to score pinch runner Jordan Acosta with a little help from a Lobo throwing error. The Rams loaded the bases for the third time of the game, but stranded them.

The Lobos mounted their comeback with two outs in the top of the seventh as they put runners on first and second base before a double down the left-field line cleared them and tied the game at 3-3.

Both teams fought in extra innings, but it was New Mexico who took the lead in the 10th frame on a double and a single to put the pressure on the Rams who trailed 5-3.

CSU added to its lead in the bottom of the second as Hannah McCorkhill knocked a single to right field to score Madison Kilcrease. Colorado State again scored in the following inning as Nelson hit her second homer of the season to left center.
