Recap: Colorado State falls to UNLV in game two

 LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Colorado State softball team looked to respond from a game one loss to UNLV, but fell in game two against the Rebels, 11-2 in five innings on Friday afternoon.
 
For the second consecutive game, UNLV scored in the first inning and put up eight runs on seven hits and one CSU error. The Rams allowed two hits – one of which was a double – and two walks before recording the first out. UNLV then continued the scoring with three singles and a double to take an 8-0 lead early.
 
Colorado State cut into its deficit in the third frame after Sarah Muzik reached base on an UNLV error which score Hannah McCorkhill who walked to lead off the inning. Madison Kilcrease followed with an infield single to score Ashley Michelena to trail by six runs.
 
The Rebels responded in the bottom of the fifth with a leadoff triple before a two-run home run put UNLV up by eight again. CSU loaded the bases in the top of the fourth with two outs, but failed to capitalize leaving all three runners on base.
 
UNLV added to its lead in the bottom of the fourth frame with a single before CSU's second error of the game allowed a run to score. CSU needed to score a pair of runs to keep the game alive in the fifth, but went down in order to suffer its seventh straight loss.
 
STAT OF THE DAY
Sarah Muzik led the Rams' offense with two hits, including an RBI.
 
NOTES
- Amber Nelson also tallied two hits in the game
- Madison Kilcrease tallied a hit in the game, while recording an RBI
- The Rams were forced to leave six runners on base in the loss
- Alison Petty started the game and was give the loss after pitching just 1/3 of the first inning and allowing seven earned runs and five hits
- Kaylynn Pierce came in a finished the game allowing just two earned runs on six hits, while striking out a batter
- CSU finished 2-for-9 with runners in scoring position and 3-for-14 with runners on base
