What I Miss Most: The Day To Day

Women's basketball player longs for return to her squad

In their own words, Colorado State student-athletes share what they miss as the coronavirus pandemic has put life on hold globally

I miss Fort Collins. I miss being able to see my teammates every day in Moby and telling each other about our day and the hard tests we have coming up.

I miss being able to go to the local parks with my teammates to study, or to just enjoy the sunlight and their company. When all of this is over and the world is healed, I can’t wait to return home and see my roommates. I can’t wait to hear about all the fun things they did at home while they were with their families.

I can’t wait to return to Fort Collins for the summer and start training with my teammates and coaches. The training and workouts may be tough, but that is what we live for and I could not be missing it more right now. I can’t wait to return to campus and the great atmosphere the campus brings. There are always students outside playing on the intermural fields, the sand volleyball courts or just out enjoying the Colorado weather. I miss saying “Hi” to all the kind, hardworking people in Moby, as I spend most of my time there. I miss interacting with my fellow student-athletes as we grab a snack from the refueling station and talk about how our seasons are going.

Through all this chaos, we have to look forward and see the benefit this is bringing.

I miss the freedom of simply going to the mall with my friends. The times I was able to go to a restaurant and enjoy a meal with friends, or all of our many breakfast dates, or late night runs to get snacks are times I thought I could enjoy for at least one more semester. I am going to miss my seniors more than I can type in words. I pictured us being able to have one more movie night all together before everyone went home for the summer. When we return to campus, I hope we cherish the time we get to spend with each other, and the time we have to get to play the sport we all love. I know when we get back, the many movie nights my roommates and I hosted will be happening every night.

Since we were able to experience this pandemic, I think it will make the times we are able to train, practice, and play that much sweeter. We are always told to “Play every game like it is your last,” because we all know once it is gone, we will miss it. But no one ever expected that our time together would be cut short because of this. Through all this chaos, we have to look forward and see the benefit this is bringing. A lot of times in life we take what we have for granted. We don’t take the time to stop and appreciate the things we have or the things we are able to do. This is especially eye-opening for myself, to realize what is really important and how to properly value it.

The things I miss the most during this time are the simple things life and friends have to offer.
