As Colorado State Football fans, student-athletes, coaches, and staff have an eye on opening the season at home on Sept. 4, we thought it was important to reflect and give thanks.
After 2020, a year many of us have never experienced -- and hopefully never will again -- the announcement of our 2021 football schedule means so much more. We learned in 2020 to hold on a little bit tighter, to care a little bit more, to fight a little bit harder. We learned not to take things for granted because in an instant, the roar of the crowd can be replaced by the deafening silence and tone of piped in crowd noise.
The ideals of toughness and perseverance on the gridiron are essential to success. In 2020, more so than ever before, we saw those ideals reflected in every corner of our community. In Fort Collins and Northern Colorado, we saw perseverance in our schools and our students who didn't flinch when a worldwide pandemic forced us into our homes and onto our computers for virtual learning. We saw toughness in our businesses and towns when the worst recorded fire in Colorado's history darkened our skies for five months. And, we've seen a determination from our healthcare workers and first responders which makes us all proud.
The individuals represented in our 2021 schedule release video are in a small way representative of their professions and communities, and we can never say "Thank you," enough to those folks who've exemplified courage and toughness at every turn.
Because of the efforts of these groups and so many others, we have a hope to return to normalcy by the time our season kicks off in the fall. It is a fall we hope you fill with tailgating on campus with your friends and family, cheering on the Rams to victory inside Canvas Stadium, and ending the night holding on just a little bit tighter after everything we've gone through together.
