This week’s notable storylines…
- CSU and Idaho meet for the first time since Sept. 12, 1992, when current RB coach Anthoney Hill was the Rams’ quarterback and Earle Bruce was the CSU head coach. Idaho stormed back that day, erasing a 28-7 first-quarter deficit, to win 37-34 on a late field goal.
- The last time the Rams were in Moscow, Oct. 6, 1973, during the Richard Nixon administration, CSU had just put horns on its helmets for the first time (the horns were green with a yellow background, opposite of today). Although they played on the grounds of the Kibbie Dome, the stadium wasn’t yet a dome. It was then known as New Idaho Stadium. CSU won a barnburner, 33-30.
- The Rams play only their fourth game all-time indoors (also at Minnesota/Metrodome in 2005, vs. North Texas in the 2001 New Orleans Bowl/Superdome, and 1972 at the world’s first indoor stadium, the Houston Astrodome, against the Houston Cougars.
- In a battle of 3-1 teams on national television, CSU’s first appearance on ESPNU, the Rams expect to have their hands full with an opponent that has already defeated San Diego State, and just went on the road to beat a tough Northern Illinois team. Idaho’s only loss is to Washington, who beat then-No. 3 USC Sept. 20. CSU’s only loss is to now-No. 20 BYU, who on Sept. 5 beat then-No. 3 Oklahoma.
- CSU plays its non-conference finale, and faces a challenge with a late kickoff (8:30 p.m. in its home time zone).
