After her playing days, Gorton began her career in coaching, first at the high school level in Yorktown, Indiana then as a graduate assistant for her former CSU head coach, Tom Collen, at Arkansas. She then moved on to Mercer and settled at Rice for several years where she helped guide the Owls to a WBI championship.
