Women’s Swimming and Diving (1974 to 1977)
Brenda Straughan-Jackson came from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., to Fort Collins to become the first female athlete at Colorado State University to receive a full-ride athletic scholarship.  A national high school All-American at Pinecrest High School in five events and the 1974 Outstanding Florida Female Swimmer, Straughan-Jackson arrived at CSU under coach Nancy O’Connor. She was selected to the 1975 US Swim Team for the 18th International Swim Championships in Bremen, Germany and named to AAU All-America teams in 1975, 1976 and 1977.Â
Straughan-Jackson set school records in the 50-, 100- and 200-yard backstroke along with a relay in 1975. At the national collegiate championships she finished first, second and third in her events.Â
