Track and Field (1969 to 1973)
Chris Adsit was a 1969 graduate of Wheat Ridge High School who came to CSU under Coach Del Hessel as a hurdler. Recruited by CSU legend Jack Christiansen when he briefly acted as a consultant for CSU Athletics, Adsit quickly made his mark on Rams track and won two WAC championships in the 400-meter hurdles; including the school record for the 400 meter hurdles which still stood as of his induction in 2012. Adsit also placed fourth in the NCAA championships in 1973. During his career at CSU he also set school records in the 60 and 110 hurdles. His outstanding academic record also made him the first CSU athlete to win two Merrill-Gheen Awards in consecutive years.
After graduation Adsit joined Athletes in Action and switched his expertise to the decathlon, placing 7th in the nation in the 1975 USA National Decathlon Championships. He set his sights on the 1976 Olympics, but an abdominal injury sidelined him. An injury also kept him out of the 1980 Olympic trials and he decided to trade in his uniform for an administrator position with Athletes in Action. He spent 15 years with Athletes in Action, wrote two books and settled on Campus Crusade’s Military Ministry to help veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.Â
