Dan Sniff remains as one of the greatest wrestlers in CSU history and as one of the finest Ram supporters as well. After winning the Skyline Conference championship in 1953, Sniff went on to the 1953 NCAA Wrestling Tournament at Penn State to finish second in the nation in the 157-pound class; the second-highest individual finish in school history to that date. His second-place finish in the NCAA’s earned him a 1953 All-American Award, the fourth wrestler in school history to be honored as an All-American. Sniff returned in 1954 to have an undefeated season only to have his ankle broken in the conference finals which forced him to default and drop out of competition.Â
After graduation, Sniff went on to coach at Lamar Community College where he guided is team to the 1959 National Championship. He worked as a farmer and rancher for more than 23 years and from 1978 to 1983 worked as the assistant athletic director in charge of fundraising at CSU under Fum McGraw. He later worked in the battery business in Arizona, where he is retired.Â
