Senior Associate Director of Athletics – (1997 to 2020)
Head Coach – Track and Field (1980 to 1997)
Track and Field – (1971 to 1975)

Doug Max has exemplified what a CSU Ram is all about since he first stepped on the campus as a hurdler in 1971. He earned four varsity letters on the Rams’ track team from 1971 to 1975, just missing the Olympics while at CSU. After four years coaching at Estes Park High School and Western Kentucky, Max returned to his alma mater in 1980 to become the head coach of track and field for the next 19 years. During his coaching stint, Max received numerous coaching awards in the WAC for cross country along with indoor and outdoor track teams. He coached more than a dozen All-Americans along with many more individual conference champions. In 1997 he served as interim athletic director and in 1998 became the facility coordinator after stepping down as head track coach. He retired at the end of 2020 after 40 years of stalwart dedication to Colorado State.
