Men’s Basketball (1979 to 1982)

Eddie Hughes came from Chicago, Ill., as one of coach Jim Williams’ top freshmen in 1978 and turned the heads of all beginning in his freshman season. In 1979, Hughes became the first player in school history named first-team All-WAC as a freshman. He was also named to the second-team in 1980 and graduated in the top five for career field goals and top 10 in scoring. His 108 assists in 1979 remains among the all-time leaders, and his eight steals in the 1982 San Diego State game set the school record. 

Following his career at CSU, Hughes went on to the NBA and played one season with the Utah Jazz and two seasons with the Denver Nuggets. Hughes went on to the become the vice-president for student services at Pikes Peak Community College, where he led several groups and continues to serve his community today.
