Football (1972 to 1975)

Fred Paoli joined the CSU football team in 1972 as a walk-on player and ended his four-year career second on the team in unassisted tackles behind All-American teammate Kevin McLain. Paoli, the son of Fred Paoli Sr., gained respect on the Rams defensive line in the early 1970s, replacing Loren Mulkins. In his senior season of 1975, Paoli was elected the team’s co-defensive captain and earned first team All-WAC honors wrapping up 78 unassisted tackles.

Following graduation, Paoli attended law school and became certified to practice law in Kansas, Montana and Colorado beginning in 1979. While attending law school in Kansas, Paoli started playing rugby beginning in 1976 and became one of the nation’s premier rugby players until 1991, playing nationally and internationally. Paoli also coached rugby at Harvard University. He continues to practice law in Colorado and Montana.
