Men’s Basketball (1970 to 1973)

Gary Rhoades was recruited out of Denver’s West High School by legendary CSU coaches Jim Williams and Boyd Grant. During his four-year playing career at CSU, Rhoades earned All-WAC honors in 1972 and 1973, playing in the Aloha Classic All-Star game in 1973.

After his CSU career, Rhoades was drafted by both the Denver Rockets of the ABA and the Houston Rockets of the NBA in the 1973 drafts. He played in international basketball tours in Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, Malaysia and the Philippine Islands. He returned to Colorado where he began a long career with Denver Parks and Recreation for more than 20 years. Rhoades had a small role in the motion picture “One on One”, which was filmed on the CSU campus in 1977. Rhoades also formed the Rolling Cowboys Wheelchair Sports Club in 1975, coaching and managing the team as a volunteer until 1991.
