Jennifer Buford has the distinction of playing for two of CSU’s most successful athletic teams in different sports. A native of Grand Junction, Colorado, Buford was a junior on the 1997 championship softball team which won the WAC championship and came within one out of the college softball World Series. As a fifth-year senior, Buford also played on the 1999 WAC champion women’s basketball team, which made it as far as the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament. She excelled in softball where she was named as the 1997 second-team All-America with a .383 batting average, graduating with school records for stolen bases (31) and runs (60). Following her final year of softball and before graduation, Buford walked-on for the 1998-99 basketball season, playing on the greatest women’s basketball team in school history.

After graduation, Buford played professionally with the Carolina Diamonds and Florida Wahoos before working at Triple Crown Sports running fast-pitch softball tournaments. She later went into the banking business where she works in Fort Collins and remains active in sports as a high school and college basketball referee.
