Volleyball (1987 to 1990)
Jill Johnson came from Ceritos, Calif., to play for coach Rich Feller during an amazing period in CSU volleyball. She joined Ram legends Cindy Cox, Angie Knox and Diane Saba to form a solid volleyball squad in the late 1980s. Johnson earned honorable mention All-HCAC honors in her freshman season of 1987 and again in 1988. She was named first-team All-WAC in 1989 and 1990, along with earning player of the week twice in the 1990 season. She led the team in kills in 1988, 1989 and 1990 along with hitting percentage and kills per game in 1990. She also led the Rams in digs during the 1988, 1989 and 1990 seasons and service aces in 1989 and 1990. When she left CSU she held the school record for career attacks, career digs and was second in career kills.Â
Johnson loved Fort Collins so much after graduation she remained in her college town and married former CSU thrower Brian Bedard, Bedard, a 2005 CSU Hall of Fame inductee, was an assistant coach for the Rams and remains as the school’s head coach of track and field as of 2020. Jill Johnson-Bedard and Brian Bedard are the second husband and wife Hall of Fame couple in CSU history and both remain active in the Fort Collins community.Â
