Assistant Coach – Men’s Swimming
Men’s Swimming (1966 to 1968)
Jim Malley trained to be a swimmer as a young man at the Santa Clara Swim Club, and in 1966 was named as the first person to receive a scholarship for men’s swimming in CSU history. Malley arrived at the newly built Moby Pool and did not disappoint Ram fans and his coach, Art Solow. In 1967 and 1968, Malley won All-American Awards in the 100- and 200-yard backstrokes along with appearing in the 1968 Olympic Trials. Malley also won All-American awards as a member of the 1967 and 1968 400-yard relay teams, becoming the first four-time All-American swimmer in school history.
After graduation in 1969, Malley assisted Solow before volunteering in the Peace Corps. He then coached the Greece National swim team for both men and women. In 1980 he returned to Fort Collins and coached Poudre High School swimming while earning his master’s degree from CSU. After earning his master’s degree in education, Malley went on to train swimmers in Arizona and has been an elementary school teacher in California since 1989.
