Track and Field (2002 to 2005)

Loree Smith came from Julesburg, Colo., to set school, conference and national records as one of the greatest throwers in CSU track and field history. A protégé of coach Brian Bedard, Smith immediately made an impact on the Rams track team winning a Mountain West title her freshman year and scored the first of her six All-American Awards in 2003 when she placed in the indoor shot put and weight throw. In 2004 Smith won a gold medal in the North American Central American Championships for hammer and won All-American at the NCAA’s outdoor competition for hammer in 2004 with a second-place finish and the won the NCAA championship for hammer in 2005. She set the school and Mountain West record for hammer on May 13, 2005 with a 70.03 meter toss.
 
Smith continued to excel in track and field outside of her CSU career, placing ninth in the 2004 Olympic trials and fourth in the 2008 Olympic Trials. She went to Bejing in 2008 as a member of the USA Olympic team, finishing 39th.
