Mark Mullaney came from George Washington High School after a highly successful career as a basketball and football player. At CSU, Mullaney first played defensive line, and when Sark Arslanian took over as head coach he switched to the offensive line, where he helped the Rams to become the nation’s top-rated passing offense. As a three-year starter, Mullaney earned conference honors in 1974 on offense and was named to the 1975 Chicago All-Star team and played in the 1975 Senior Bowl.
In January of 1975, Mullaney was chosen as the 25th-overall pick in the first round of the NFL Draft, becoming the second CSU football player to be chosen in the first round of the NFL Draft. Mullaney spent 12 seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, playing in Super Bowl XI in 1976. In the NFL, Mullaney returned to the defensive side of the ball where he recorded 45.5 sacks and ranked as one of the Vikings’ all-time leaders in quarterback sacks. He retired from football in 1987 and went into business in Minnesota.
