Track and Field, Cross Country (1990 to 1992)
Sandy Ham has the distinction of being the first female cross country All-American from CSU when she was awarded the honor in 1991. A native of Haxtun, Colo., Ham first attended Northeastern Junior College and won the National Junior College two-mile run in her freshman year. She transferred to CSU in her sophomore year and immediately made an impact on the Rams track program, qualifying for the NCAA Cross Country Championships in her sophomore year. She later became the first CSU cross country runner to qualify for the NCAA Championships. Besides her 1991 All-American Award for cross country, she was also named to the 1992 All-America team for the 5,000-meter run. She was nationally ranked in the top 10 in the United States by Track & Field News in the 5,000, both indoors and outdoors, in 1992. She finished 10th nationally in the NCAA Championships and was recognized as one of the top Colorado Sportswomen of the year in her senior season.Â
