Rams look past loss to Rice...
The Colorado State Women?s Swimming team suffered their first loss in the season opener to non-conference competitors, Rice, Fri. October 10, with a score of 145-117.
Senior, Kristen Schneider led the Rams with two individual wins and helped the 200 Medley Relay made up of junior Lyndsey McCaslin and sophomores Rachelle Kula and Elizabeth Jones to start the meet off with a win. She also posted impressive times in the 100 (:58.24) and 200 (2:06.64) backstrokes. Teammate and fellow senior, Katie Peck won the 400 IM by several bodylengths in a blistering time of 4:33.25. Peck also placed second in the 200 (1:55.83) and 500 (5:12.64) freestyles. McCaslin also put in a standout effort, gaining points and a win for the Rams in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.77). Second place finishes were picked up by senior Corinne Hofstetter in the 1,000 Freestyle (10:41.93), Jones in the 50 Freestyle (24.53), and senior Jamie Robinson in the 200 breaststroke (2:22.45). The 200 Freestyle Relay of freshmen Brette Winegarner and Chandra Engs, senior Paula Langner and Jones earned a second place (1:38.11), out-touched by only .04 behind Rice?s winning relay team. The Rams will continue their preseason competition at the annual Early Bird Invitational held at EPIC (Edora Pool and Ice Center) Friday and Saturday Oct. 24-25. Last year the team won the meet with a grand total of 1,273 points.
CSU team picks its captains...
Colorado State Swimming and Diving team elected its captains on Sat. Oct 11. Four Ram seniors were selected. These seniors include Melissa Fischer, Corinne Hofstetter, Paula Langner and Katie Peck.
Seniors lead top individual season times...
10 of the 12 top 2003-2004 season times in individual events are held by seniors. Katie Peck holds the top times in the 200 and 500 Freestyle and 400 IM. Corinne Hofstetter sits in first place in the 1000 Freestyle and 200 Butterfly, and Kristen Schneider ranks at the top for the 100 and 200 Backstrokes. Paula Langner holds the top time in the 100 Freestyle and Jamie Robinson is positioned with the fastest time in the 200 Breaststroke.
In the Spotlight: Corinne Hofstetter...
Corinne Hofstetter, a senior, hails from Paso Robles, California. She is a Butterfly and Distance Freestyle specialist.
Hofstetter was the 2003 Mountain West Conference Champion in the 200 Butterfly. She was named to the first team all-conference in the 200 Butterlfy and now holds the fourth fastest time in the event in school history (2:04.25). She was also named to the second team in the 800 Free Relay, 500 and 1,650 Freestyle.
Hofstetter was part of the 800 Freestyle Relay that now holds the new school record. She also placed 5th in the 1650 free and 8th in the 500 free. Hofstetter held the team?s top season times in the 500, 1000, 1650 Freestyles and 200 Butterfly. Her times in the 200 free and 100 Butterfly ranked her in the top five team season times also.
Hofstetter helped the team with 53 points at conference and 279.75 throughout the year, the fifth most by a Ram for the 2002-2003 season.
She was also voted by her teammates as most inspirational for her performances at the Notre Dame, BYU and Utah Dual meets and the Husky Invitational. She was voted MVP for the BYU and Utah Duals.
Hofstetter is the daughter of Mark and Deborah Hofstetter. She is majoring in Technical Journalism.
