Swimming and Diving Finishes Fifth

Irvine Calif. -The Colorado State swimming and diving team wrapped up competition in the Speedo Cup Invitational in Irvine, Calif. today. The team finished fifth overall with a score of 678.5.
The Rams had a great showing from all its swimmers and everyone who swam today improved on their season best times in either preliminary races or in competition.
Senior Kristen Schneider continued to dominate the competition and came away with a victory in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:58.24, an improvement of six seconds on her previous best. Schnieder recorded a season best time in the preliminaries of the 200 butterfly, her time was 2:07.53. On Friday at the Speedo Cup Schneider set the school record in the 100 backstroke with a time of 54.47, she had also held the previous low.
Senior Corinne Hofstetter posted season best times in two events events today. She finished seventh in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 17:30.92 and she also finished fifth in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:06.05.
Liz Jones and Brette Winegarner also swam well for the Rams. Jones finished ninth overall in the 100 freestyle, with a time of 53.20, a personal best. Winegarner finished 19th in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:09.18 also a personal best.
Jamie Robinson and Melissa Fischer finished seventh and eighth in the 200 breaststroke, respectively. Lyndsey McCaslin finished close behind in the same event in 13th.
The Rams performed well yesterday with some spectacular performances. On Friday McCaslin finished fourth in the 100 breaststroke. Katie Peck was the top finisher for the Rams in the 400 IM on Friday with a time of 4:28.20, to finish fourth overall.
Colorado State?s relay teams also performed well in California. On Friday night the 800 freestyle relay team made up of seniors Schneider, Peck and Hofstetter, and sophomore Rachelle Kula finished first with a time of 7:32.97 and the 200 medley relay team of Schneider, McCaslin, Kula and Peck finished in third with a time 1:45.91.
The team began competition in the Speedo Cup on Thursday and many Rams swam well then as well. On Thursday Corinne Hofstetter swam a season best 5:01.08 to place fifth in the 500 freestyle. Liz Jones placed sixth in the 50 freestyle at 24.19.
The team will return to action on December 6 at home against Air Force and San Diego State. The event will be held at Moby Pool.
