On the Blocks...
The Ram Co-Regular Season MWC Champions will put it all on the line for the conference title at the Mountain West Conference Championships in Okalahoma City, Okla. Feb. 18-21.
Conference Team Roster Finalized...
The 19-member conference team was finalized after the UNLV dual meet. It includes the complete senior class of Melissa Fischer, Corinne Hofstetter, Paula Langner, Katie Peck, Jamie Robinson, Kristen Schneider and Lori Vigil. Juniors: Shelley Aspevig, Amber Canterbury, Kara Crisp, Sarah DeLapp, Lyndsey McCaslin and Seda Odzemir. Sophomores: Taylor Felton, Elizabeth Jones, Rachelle Kula and Laura Tingle. Freshmen: Chandra Engs and Brette Winegarner.
The remaining members, sophomores Jennifer Banker, Tiffany Thompson, Kara Swindler and Cassi Willbanks will taper for a local area meet.
7th Highest Finish for Mattos...
The 9-2 dual meet season finish for the Rams is an 81.8 winning percentage. It is the 7th highest dual meet winning percentage for Mattos in his 24-year reign.
2002-2003 Recap...
The Rams took second at last year?s Conference Championships behind BYU.The Rams will try to capture repeat titles from Schneider in the 200 IM and Hofstetter in the 200 butterfly. They will also have titles to defend in the 200 Medley Relay and 200 and 400 Free Relays.
CSU Shares the Title with the Utes ...
The Colorado State Swimming and Diving team easily defeated border rival Wyoming Friday, Jan. 30, 140-84. Senior Kristen Schneider, sophomore Elizabeth Jones and freshman Chandra Engs all pitched in double wins.
The next afternoon, the Rams rallied again for the dual in the pool against the UNLV Rebels. Preceeding the meet, the Rebels and the Rams had tied conference records. The winner of the dual meet would determine who would share the regular season conference dual meet title with Utah. The Rams had a bone to pick from the 2002 dual where UNLV edged CSU by three points for the win.
The Rebels won the first three events before their streak was broken by Jones and senior Paula Langner going 1-2 in the 50 freestyle.
Senior Lori Vigil placed first on the 1 and 3-meter boards. Fellow senior Corinne Hofstetter had a come from behind win in the 200 butterfly and Schneider and freshman Brette Winegarner finished first and second in the 200 backstroke.
The Rams were behind by two points going into the 400 Free Relay but anchor, Langner pulled ahead in the last 25 yards to win the event, the meet and a share of the regular season title.
Vigil Ranks at the Top of the MWC...
Senior Lori Vigil is ranked first in the MWC on the 1-meter diving board with a score of 284.62. She will compete post-conference at the NCAA Diving Zones March 11-13 in Oklahoma City, Okla.
