Ram Swimmers Finish Second at MWC

Colorado State?s swimming and diving team finished second at the MWC Championships in Oklahoma City today. The Rams scored 607.5 points while BYU finished with a league best, 725 points. UNLV ended in third followed by Utah, New Mexico, Wyoming, Air Force and San Diego State.
Senior Corinne Hofstetter led the Rams when she defended her conference title in the 200-yard butterfly. Hofstetter won by more than a second with a time of 2:04.07 after she placed tenth in the mile with a time of 17:15.59. Senior Kristen Schneider placed second in the 200-yard backstroke with a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 2:01.64.
Paula Langler, led the Rams to a 3-4-7 place finish in the 100-yard freestyle. Langler finished in 51.65 followed by Elizabeth Jones in 51.58 and Katie Peck in 52.01. Senior Jamie Robinson finished sixth in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:21.61 followed by senior Melissa Fischer in eighth place with a time of 2:23.38.
CSU?s 400-freestyle relay team won by .02 seconds ahead of BYU. The team, consisting of Kristen Schneider, Elizabeth Jones, Katie Peck and Paula Langner swam an NCAA provisional time of 3:24.55.
Diver Lori Vigil placed fifth in the platform dive with a score of 314.95.
Senior Kristen Schneider was named Mountain West Conference Swimmer of the Year at the conclusion of today's events. This marks the first time a Colorado State swimmer has been named Swimmer of the year in the Mountain West, and the first Swimmer of the Year since Amy Van Dyken was named WAC Swimmer of the Year in 1994.
