Senior Kristen Schneider earned the MWC Swimmer of the Year award after her record setting performance at the 2004 MWC Championships. This is Schneider?s first Swimmer of the Year award, and the first awarded to a Ram since Amy Van Dyken won the award in 1994.

Schneider broke two MWC records. On the second day of competition, Schneider broke her own conference record in the women?s 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:01.11, eclipsing her old record set in 2003 of 2:01.34. On the third day of competition, Schneider set a new MWC championship record in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 54:50. Raluca Udroiu of UNLV held the old record of 54:60. Both of Schneider?s times broke CSU records as well.

Schneider also swam well in relay competition, being a part of teams winning the women?s 200-yd medley, the 700-yd freestyle relay, 400-yd freestyle relay, and the 800-yard freestyle relay. The 800-yard relay time of 7:22.80 broke the old CSU and MWC conference records. Utah held the old MWC record with a time of 7:23.63.

Schneider also won the 2003-2004 MWC Senior Recognition Award, awarded each year to the conference?s most outstanding senior. This is the first time in conference history that the same swimmer has won both the Swimmer of the Year and Senior Recognition award. Schneider is also the only Ram to ever qualify for four consecutive NCAA Championships.
