The men's and women's cross country teams head to Provo, Utah this weekend for the NCAA Mountain Regional cross country meet. It all comes down to this weekend; a good performance at this meet will earn them a spot at the NCAA Championship meet in Terre Haute, Ind. on Nov. 21.
The women will be competing against some of the top schools in the nation including No. 7 BYU, No. 10 Colorado, and No. 17 Northern Arizona.
The men also have a tough competition with No. 3 Colorado, No. 6 BYU, and No. 8 University of Texas El Paso.
The top two teams from each of the nine regions will head to nationals on Nov. 21. Thirteen other teams qualify based on criteria listed in the NCAA Cross Country Championships Manual.
Last year at the regional meet the women finished third and the men finished fifth, with both teams earning a spot at the national meet.
Last weekend the Rams hosted the Mountain West Conference Championship meet. The women placed third behind BYU and New Mexico. Junior Danielle Korb led the way for the Rams coming in at 11th place. Sophomore April Thomas and freshman Kristen Hemphill followed her.
The men placed second behind BYU. Senior Josh Glaab led the men coming in sixth and earning him Mountain West Conference First Team honors. Junior Rob Watson and senior Paul Michel followed Glaab and both earned Mountain West Conference Second Team honors.
