UC Irvine Speedo Cup Day One Results

The first day of the UC Irvine Speedo Cup concluded at Belmont Plaza in Long Beach for the CSU swimmers. The Rams competed in five events including the 200 Freestyle Relay, 500 Freestyle, 200 Individual Medley, 50 Freestyle, and the 400 Medley Relay. From these races the ladies successfully earned 109 points placing them eighth out of 19 teams in overall standings.

The swimmers first race of the day was the 200 Freestyle Relay. The Rams relay squad finished in a time of 1:38.01 placing them seventh out of 42 teams. They received 46 points for their placing.

The next race was the individual 500 Freestyle. CSU had five swimmers participate in this event. Tara Staley, one of the newest members to the swim team, was our leader and point earner for this race. She placed nineteenth with a time of 5:04.95 earning CSU seven points. Other contenders in the race were Taylor Felton placing twenty-forth (5:13.19), Ashley Lonon placing twenty-ninth (5:12.89), Chandra Engs placing thirty-ninth (5:13.33), and Celes Parks placing forty-forth (5:15.01).

Third event of the day was the 200 Individual Medley for six ladies. CSU did not earn any points for this race from not making the top 20 times. The leading contender for CSU though was sophomore Abi Iler. She placed twenty-sixth with a time of 2:11.20. Other participating Rams were Lyndsey Cox placing fortieth (2:11.73), Rachelle Kula placing forty-second (2:12.97), Chandra Engs placing forty-third (2:13.55), Amy Abrams placing forth-forth (2:13.78), and Sara Servold placing sixty-fifth (2:15.95).

Next event of the day was the 50 Freestyle for two Ram swimmers. Senior Liz Jones placed eleventh with a time of 24.30 earning the Rams 16 points for the race. The other contender was junior Brette Winegarner placing thirty-ninth with a time of 24.95.

Last event of the day for the Lady Rams was the 400 Medley Relay. The ladies placed ninth with a time of 3:59.44 earning the team 40 points to end the day.

The Speedo Cup continues Friday with finals beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Belmont Plaza.
