Colorado State will take on the University of Denver's Pioneers at 5:00 p.m. MT at home in Fort Collins, Colo. on Friday, January 27. Last season the Rams ended their season with their first loss against the Pioneers. Colorado State is 3-1 all-time vs. Denver.
Rams Drop Dual at Utah
The Colorado State University women's swimming and diving team dropped to 4-3 on the season in conference duals after suffering a 158-127 setback at Utah (5-0 MWC) Saturday evening in Salt Lake City. The Rams are set to compete this week at home against Denver Pioneers in a non-conference dual meet.
Cougars Sink CSU Swimmers
BYU captured wins in 11 of 16 events and handed Colorado State its second dual loss of the year, 162-128 in Provo Friday evening. Junior Brette Winegarner posted a 22-point day for the Rams with a second-place finish in the 100 Backstroke (58.00) before winning the 200 Backstroke (2:05.57) and the 200 IM (2:12.80) later in the meet. CSU also had a victory in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay where the team of Karin Knudson, Elizabeth Jones, Rachelle Kula and Tara Staley posted a season-best time of 1:36.92.
Jones Makes Top-Time in 50 Free...
Senior Liz Jones bested the top-time for the Rams this season in the 50 freestyle at the BYU Dual. Jones, who also is a freestyle sprinter for the Rams, recorded a time of 0:24.27 seconds, just .01 second ahead of the previous top time by sophomore swimmer Karin Knudson at the Matt Gribble Invitational.
Hall Requalifies for NCAA Sectionals
Rams' sophomore diver Elyse Hall finished second in the 1-Meter Diving Utah Dual and requalified for the NCAA Sectionals in the events. In Colorado State's double-dual matchup with Air Force and San Diego State on Dec. 3rd, Hall captured first place in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events.
Mountain West Foes...
Head Coach John Mattos has an amazing record of 109-21 against Mountain West Conference opponents. Mattos has a losing record (9-13) against only one conference school, Brigham Young.
Parks Makes Her Mark...
Sophomore Celes Parks competed in the BYU Dual and makes the Rams top-time this season for the 1000 freestyle coming in with a time of 10:40:25. Parks also swims distance for the Rams.
Staley A Staple...
Colorado State sophomore Tara Staley appears in multiple places on this season's top times list. Staley holds the top times for the Rams in the 100 (0:53:33), the 200 (1:54.99) and 500 freestyle (5:04.95) events as well as the 100 butterfly. (0:57.95). She also is second for Colorado State in the 200 freestyle (1:55.95) and third in the 50 freestyle (0:24.79).
