Women's Cross Country Earns Invite

The Colorado State women's cross country team learned this morning that all of their efforts for the season had paid off - they will be competing for the NCAA title on Nov. 20 in Terre Haute, Ind.
The Rams received an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship after finishing fourth at the NCAA Mountain Regional on Saturday and second at the Mountain West Conference Championship two weeks ago.
"We ran really well at conference," said head coach Bryan Berryhill. "I think the team could place around 10th if they run well. They are very capable and if we have everyone healthy at the line it could be a great race."
This is the first appearance for the women's team since 2004 and the eighth overall trip. The team has competed in the NCAA Championship in 1996-98, 2000, 2001, 2003 and 2004 and had individuals racing in 1999 and 2002.
Thirty-one teams were selected to participate in each championship. The top two, seven-person teams automatically qualified from each of the nine regions, for a total of 18 teams. Thirteen additional teams were selected at-large.
Thirty-eight individuals, the first four athletes from each region who are not a part of a qualifying team and two additional qualifiers, were selected to participate in each championship. All individual qualifiers must finish in the top 25 in their region.
Indiana State University will host the 2006 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships, November 20, at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course located at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center, Terre Haute, Indiana. The women's race will begin at noon Eastern time followed by the men's race at 1:15 p.m.
