The Colorado State women's cross country team today finished 24th at the NCAA Championship with 475 points. Junior April Thomas led the Rams with her 42nd place finish.

Thomas crossed the finish line in 21:33.0 for the six-kilometer course, missing All-American honors by just two spots (top 30 Americans earn the honor), and she was the second athlete from the Mountain West Conference across the line.

"April has been our most steady runner all year," said Head Coach Bryan Berryhill. "She ran extremely tough today and had a tremendous year for us. I look forward to seeing what she can do in the future for the Rams."

Senior Nicole Feest ran a 22:20.3 to finish 124th overall and 93rd in the scoring, while senior Danielle Korb and sophomore Kirsten Anthony finished 145th and 146th, respectively. Sophomore Kristen Hemphill, recovering from walking pneumonia, finished 156th overall to round out the scoring, while sophomores Heather Loseke and Ashlee Velez were 219th and 240th, respectively.

"We finished where we were ranked," Berryhill said. "Overall, it wasn't a bad finish, especially since we didn't even make it last year, but I know we were capable of a better finish. This was a tough course, there was ankle deep mud in a lot of places, which might have affected them. I am pround of the team and know this experience will help them later on."

Stanford won the women's race, while Colorado was the men's champion. Sally Kipyego from Texas Tech was the individual champion on the women's side, while BYU's Josh Rohatinsky was the men's champion.
