TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Colorado State women's cross country team was racing among the nation's best this weekend at the NCAA Pre-Nationals and came out with a strong sixth place finish. The Rams, who are ranked No. 14, defeated 32 teams including No. 7 Rice and regional leader Stanford.
April Thomas paced CSU with a 21st place finish in a time of 20:48. She was the top finisher from the Mountain West Conference. Heather Loseke finished in 25th with a time of 20:53. Allison Gohl (54), Kristen Hemphill (55) and Kirsten Anthony (61) rounded out the scoring place for the Rams. Melissa Thomas finished in 78th position and Chantelle Dron earned the 125th spot.
"Last year were 11th in this race, a sixth place finish today is a great improvement," said Head Coach Bryan Berryhill. "We were very solid all the way around. They fed off of each other and had a good race. This race met expectations. This is exactly what we wanted leading into today. We raced well as a team and we had five girls who ran very solid races on the same day which is what cross country is all about."
The Rams will compete next in the Mountain West Conference Championships in San Diego Oct. 27th.
