MWC Championships Next...
The Colorado State swimming and diving team will travel to Oklahoma City, Okla. for the Mountain West Conference Championships this week. The championships will begin on Wednesday and continue through Saturday. The event is scheduled to go all day Wednesday through Friday.
Rams come up short to Wyoming on emotional senior night...
In the final conference and home meet of the season, Colorado State honored senior swimmers Brette Winegarner and Chandra Engs as well as juniors Rachel Ray and Amy Abrams (Ray and Abrams will forgo their final year of eligibility because they both will be graduating early). In an emotional night it was the arch rival Wyoming that played spoiler. Wyoming edged the Rams by a final score of 127-135 in a meet that came down to the final event.
Winegarner looks to grab MWC honors...
Senior captain Brette Winegarner will look to bring home first-team All-Mountain West Conference honors in the 100 and 200 yard backstroke. Last season Winegarner earned second team All-MWC honors in the 200 yard back with a 8th place finish at 2006 MWC Championships. She also placed 9th in the 100 yard backstroke but did not earn any honors.
Divers hope to improve at Championships...
The Colorado State divers hope to improve off their performance at the Air Force Diving Invitational. In 1-meter diving the Rams Karin Knudson (246.70) placed 8th which was the best finish of any Ram. Elyse Hall, Nicole Kelley and Kristie Bowdler finish 11th, 12th and 13th. In 3-meter diving Hall (248.95) finish 7th to top all Colorado State divers.
Olympic Atmosphere...
Oklahoma City Communitiy College will host the 2007 MWC Championships in their Aquatic Center on campus. The building was originally built in 1989 to serve as the venue for aquatic competition during the 1989 U.S. Olympic Festival. This will be the 8th time in conference history that the college will host the championships.
