COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado State freshman Breann Fuller earned Mountain West Conference Swimmer of the Week honors Tuesday, after helping the Rams to a 4-0 start in conference dual meets over the weekend.
Fuller, a native of Brighton, Colo., won two individual events and helped the Rams to two relay victories in CSU's first conference meet at UNLV. The freshman led off the 200-yard Medley Relay that won in 1:45.60, and the 400-yard Freestyle Relay that won with a time of 3:30.64. Fuller also set lifetime bests in the 100 and 200-yard backstrokes, finishing in 56.81 and 2:02.81, respectively. Both times currently rank first in the MWC.
“Breann’s performance in those relays really spurred us on and her lifetime bests in the 100 and 200 Back ultimately keyed our victory over a very tough UNLV team,” said Head Coach John Mattos.
Mattos, Fuller and the Rams opened up their MWC schedule on Friday with that key victory at UNLV, who was selected to finish second in the MWC preseason coaches’ poll. The Rams then carried that momentum into a quad dual meet where they picked up victories over host San Diego State, Air Force and New Mexico, to improve to 4-0 on the young season.
The Rams will not compete this week, but hope to carry the momentum from their 4-0 start when they travel to Fort Worth, Texas, Nov. 7, to take on conference foe TCU. The Rams will then face a daunting non-conference test in a meet against North Texas, SMU and Arkansas in Denton, Texas, on Nov. 8.
