FORT WORTH, Texas—CSU dropped their first loss of the season at TCU Recreation Center with a final score of 128-115. This is also their first conference loss, putting them at 4-1 overall as well as in the Mountain West Conference.

For the third season in a row the Rams have had a 4-0 conference start, and had they won against TCU it would have been their first 5-0 conference start since their 10-0 season in 2000.

“We just needed to win a few more races here and there, “ said Head Coach John Mattos. “One second place or one first place instead of a second place in two events and we would have won the meet. That’s how close it was”

There were still plenty of things that excited Colorado State. Sam Dole swam a new season best in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 24.08, and divers Nicole Kelley (259.43) and Shayna Solomon (258.68) were only a few points away from qualifying for the NCAA Regional Diving meet. Breann Fuller is also still making a splash with an individual win in the 200 Backstroke (2:03.39) as well as serving as a leg in the 200 Medley Relay (3:52.16) and 400 Freestyle Relay (3:28.85).

“They (TCU) were ready and they swam tough, “ added Mattos. “We were right there and swam right with them. I’m not concerned at all I we’ll bounce back tomorrow and do a great job. We’re going against tougher teams tomorrow, and I think we’ll race well.”

Colorado State will head to Denton, Texas for a non-conference meet against SMU, Arkansas, and North Texas. SMU and Arkansas are currently nationally ranked teams.
