FORT COLLINS, Colo. - After a trip up to Laramie, Wyo. for their first meet to see how well the athletes trained this summer, the cross country team will come back to Fort Collins for the Colorado State Classic on Sept. 13. This meet will be one of two home events taking place this year along with the NCAA Mountain Regional taking place in mid-November.

“We are very excited to host the second annual Colorado State Classic,” said Coach Bryan Berryhill. “We have some great teams coming in this year. Western State from down in Gunnison and the University of Utah's women's team should provide some great competition. We also have a lot of great teams with wonderful traditions from other parts of Colorado that will make this meet extremely competitive.”

After a tough challenge from both the Bill Dellinger Invite and Pre-Nationals in October, the Rams will travel to San Diego State to compete in the 2008 Mountain West Conference Championships.

“This is the most emotional meet of the year for our teams. Our women's team will look to repeat as champions and our men's team will shoot for a top-two finish in San Diego. This is a great meet and always has terrific competition from around the conference. On the men's side there are five very good teams that could challenge for the top two spots. On the women's side BYU, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming should provide all the competition needed to make this a very tough challenge.”

On Nov. 15 Colorado State will host the Mountain Region Championships before the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. The Rams hope to take advantage of the home crowd and the home course.

“We are honored to host this meet in Fort Collins this year. This meet decides who gets to run in the NCAA Championships so our athletes understand the importance of this race. If we want to run at the NCAA's we will have to compete with tremendous focus. The Mountain Region is historically one of the best regions in the nation so the competition will be very tough.”
