FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The men's and women's cross country teams get their first test of the season as the Rams head to Laramie, Wyo., for the Wyoming Invitational Friday. In an event at which CSU traditionally has had great success, both the men's and women's teams look to get their season off to a strong start.

"This is a great opening meet where we can see how well the athletes trained over the summer months," Head Coach Bryan Berryhill said. "It gives us an idea of where we are and what we need to do between September and November to achieve our goals for the season."

Indeed, the women's team used its win at last year's Invitational as a springboard to the most successful season in school history, finishing with wins at both the Mountain West Conference and NCAA Mountain Regional championships. Coming into this season, the team faces high expectations, as MWC coaches voted the Rams as the favorites to win the league championship again. For the men, they are looking to, at worst, repeat their second-place finish at last year's Invitational, and use that to build toward an expected strong season this year.

The Rams will be going up against teams from the University of Wyoming, Air Force, the University of Northern Colorado, as well as University of Wyoming alumni. The event takes place at the Jacoby Golf Course, with the women's 2.5-mile race starting at 6 p.m., and the men's 4.25-mile race starting at 6:30 p.m.
