LARAMIE, Wyo. -After an hour rain delay put things on hold, the CSU men's and women's cross country teams walked out of the Wyoming Invitational victorious, sweeping the meet.

Sophomore Ellie Rastall had the most impressive performance of the day as she broke the course record with a time of 14 minutes, 30.3 seconds, shattering the old record of 14:42 held by former Ram Heather Loseke, set in 2007.

"Ellie Rastall had a phenomenal effort breaking the course record by 12 seconds," Head Coach Bryan Berryhill said. "She did a tremendous stand-up job."

The men did extremely well, dominating the competition, placing the top three runners. Daniel Wallis was credited with the victory with a time of 22:10.3, although he crossed the finish line hand-in-hand, literally, with teammate Jeremy Freed, who placed second. Rounding out the top three was senior Wil Buchanan, only 9 seconds back of his teammates. The men won easily, doubling up the score of second-place Utah Valley University, 42-21. The University of Wyoming finished third, while the University of Northern Colorado finished fourth.

"We had a 15 second spread from our one to four runners, which is very good," Berryhill said. "Any time you do that and run as a group you are going to have a good day."

Although the women came away with a victory as well, Berryhill still expects more from them as a group.

"Ellie Rastall, Nicole Peters and freshman Sarah Heuer all ran well," Berryhill said. "We got the win, but as a top five team we have to get better."

The Rams' next competition will come in two weeks on Sept. 18 when they host the Colorado State Classic in Fort Collins.
