Swimming & diving recap: Rams lose road meet at TCU

FORT WORTH, Texas – CSU got great effort from its divers and backstroke swimmers Thursday night, but the Rams lost a tough meet to TCU, 136-103, at the University Rec Center Natatorium on the Horned Frogs’ campus.
The Rams (2-5, 2-3 Mountain West) fought, but their efforts did not materialize into a win. TCU (2-1, 2-1) denied the Rams on the first leg of CSU’s key, two-city conference road trip. The Rams will look to bust out of a three-dual losing streak when they travel to Las Vegas for another conference meeting, with UNLV, on Saturday.
On Thursday at TCU, CSU swept first, second and third in both the 3-meter and 1-meter diving events. The Rams also swept in the 200 Backstroke.
Shayna Solomon, a junior from Huntington Beach Calif., took first place in both the 3-meter and 1-meter diving events with point totals of 269.93 and 288.08, respectively. Her outstanding effort in the 1-meter diving event was not only a high score for the season, but also topped her previous personal best of 283.27 from last year.
Over in the lanes, junior Breann Fuller from Brighton, Colo., took first in the 200 Back with a time of two minutes, 2.74 seconds. Fuller was closely followed by freshman Yana Garvey, who took second (2:03.23) and senior Michelle Price, who took third (2:06.71).
Senior captain Nicole Lynch from Phoenix, Ariz., stepped up, placing first in the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:20.48.
The Rams now look ahead to Saturday, when they will swim against UNLV in Las Vegas, Nev., for their eighth dual meet of the season.
