FORT COLLINS, Colo. and LONG BEACH, Calif. – In the final day of competition at the Arena Invitational in Long Beach, Calif., at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool the Rams had strong performances in the 200 Backstroke event and the 1650 Freestyle.

Meanwhile, at home at the CSUInvite, in Moby pool, the Rams met their goal of achieving season bests.

At the Arena Invitational CSU had outstanding performances by Jennifer Lamb and Maddie Gamble in the 1650 Freestyle. Lamb broke into the top 10 with a seventh-place finish with a time of 17 minutes, 3.53 seconds. Gamble placed 20th at a time of 17:33.79. The excellent performances were surprising because it was the first time both Lamb and Gamble competed in the 1650 event this season.

In the 200 Backstroke event CSU took 19th, 21st and 24th out of 84 competitors. Senior Michelle Price, from Fort Collins, Colo., earned 19th with a time of 2 minutes and 3.04 seconds, her personal best for the season. Freshman Yana Garvey followed her in 21st place with a time of 2:03.09. Breann Fuller, junior, with a time of 2:03.51 placed 24th. Their performances all qualified them for the finals.

In the 200 Breaststroke event, senior Nicole Lynch qualified for the finals with a 28th-place finish at a time of 2:22.03.

At home, in Moby pool, sophomore Mary Foster, from The Woodlands, Texas, took first in the 500 Freestyle, 1650 Freestyle and the 200 Freestyle. In the 500 Freestyle Foster had a season best with a time of 5:18.27. In her first time this season swimming the 1650 Freestyle race Foster finished first with a time of 18:15.67, over 18 seconds ahead of her competition. The Rams swept first, second and third in the 200 Freestyle with Foster in first at a time of 1:59.14, Lydia Templin in second at 1:59.84 and Kelly O’Brien coming in third at a time of 2:01.26.
