COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – With help from a variety of new faces the Colorado State indoor track and field team began the 2011 season strong Friday at the Air Force All Comers Meet.

It didn’t take long for a handful of new freshman to find success in a Colorado State jersey. In her first meet at Colorado State, Bethany DeLong placed second in the long jump and fourth in the 60-meter dash, with a time of 7.96 seconds. Also on the women’s side, freshmen Lindsey Banning and Kayla Wein recorded seventh-place finishes in the 400-meter dash and 60-meter hurdles respectively.

Cate Brus and Ian Lettow both earned first-place wins for the Rams. Brus cleared a height of 1.67 meters in the high jump and Lettow recorded a distance of 17.76 meters in the weight throw.

On the men’s side, freshman Seth Monson led the way with his second-place finish in the 400-meter dash. In the 800-meter run Ryan Friese and Alex Balsiger finished second and third respectively. Kelby Dias picked up where he left off last year taking third in the 60-meter hurdles, with a time of 8.18.

Assistant coach Janay Delong won the women’s long jump, with a distance of 6.40 meters.

The Rams are back in action next weekend at the Potts Indoor Invitational, help in Boulder, Colo.
