MADISON, Wis. and TERRE HAUTE, Ind.--Colorado State`s men's and women's cross country teams competed at two separate events over the weekend. Both teams finished in the middle of each competition.
Nicole Peters helped lead the women's team to a 23rd-place finish on Friday at the 44-team Wisconsin adidas Invitational, held in Madison, Wis., finishing 26th overall (20 minutes, 46 seconds) in the 6K race. Following Peters, Ellie Keyser finished 80th (21:12), followed closely behind by Hannah Pensack-Rinehart, who finished 87th (21:13).
"Overall we had a very solid day," said Head Coach Bryan Berryhill. "The top three women finished very strong. We're very proud that we beat two nationally ranked teams; Clemson and Princeton."
Sophomore Christian Meyer had a strong finish for the men's team, leading the Rams to a 14th-place finish at the 35-team Pre-Nationals with a 60th-place finish (25:18) in the men's 8K race. Spenser Lynass finished closely behind placing 70th (25:25), while Jake Keyser placed 90th overall (25:38).
"We needed this motivation to move into the Mountain West championships here in a couple of weeks," said Berryhill. "This was a very good team effort. Our top five runners were solid."
Both teams will compete next at the MW championships in Fort Collins, Colo. on Oct. 29.
