FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- The Rams will host their final dual meet of the 2010-11 season at Moby Pool, Friday, against conference-rival Wyoming. Diving will begin at 4 p.m. and the senior recognition ceremony will be held at 4:40 p.m. Admission is free.

This will be the last dual meet before the Rams head off to the MWC championships, Feb. 23-26. For seniors Sam Dole, Kim Freeman, Maddie Gamble, Nicole Lynch, Emily Molzahn, Kelly O’Brien, Michelle Price, Cori Swango and Charlie Swearingen, this will be the last time they swim in Moby Pool in a dual-meet setting.

The Rams are out for a win against their rivals. The rivalry began heating up during the past eight seasons. In the eight times the two teams have gone head to head in the past eight seasons, both teams have come away with four wins. Before these past few seasons, CSU held a 28-year winning streak against Wyoming.

With senior recognition night, the last dual meet of the season, and against a big rival, the meet is shaping up to be one of the most exciting of the season.

Quoting Head Coach John Mattos…
On the rivalry between the Rams and the Cowgirls:
“In the last six or so years the rivalry has taken on a whole new meaning. Wyoming has been extremely competitive against us. In fact, they’ve won more meets than we’ve won in the last six years; up to that point, we’ve pretty much dominated the series. So it is a testament that they have a great team this year. They have a lot of seniors and some great young athletes. They have done a great job getting that program up to that level.”

On how the week in between dual meets has affected the athletes:
“It’s really allowed us to just focus on where we’re at and get into our taper at a good level. It’s one more dual meet. We can’t get a winning record but it certainly will be fun competing against a very good team. I feel we have a very good team and it won’t be long until that will show up.”

On the event he most wants to see improved before the championships:
“I’d love to see us break through in the 200 Fly. I think that has been one of our weaknesses. We’ve had girls improve there and girls do lifetime bests, but not anywhere near enough to be competitive within the upper echelon of the conference. So I’d really like to see that 200 Fly be someplace where we really put our foot down and say, ‘It’s time’ and who knows maybe it is time. It will be up to the kids and we’ll see what happens.”

On what a win would do for the team heading into the championships:
“Obviously it is against our rival. It would certainly help their confidence to win, but it certainly isn’t going to take them off the track if they do not get a win against Wyoming.”
