COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – For two consecutive weeks senior Jessica Sharbono has won two of the three throwing events in which she participated, and for two consecutive weeks she’s been rewarded with the Mountain West’s Track & Field Athlete of the Week honor. The conference announced her latest prize Tuesday afternoon.
Sharbono won the shot put Saturday at the CU Invitational with a throw of 48 feet, 6.75 inches on her final attempt. She then repeated her first-place performance in the discus, setting a new personal record at 179-6.
Her mark in the discus ranks first in the MW, and is ninth in the country. The Rams own three of the top four throws in the league in that event.
The Billings, Mont., native now has two weekly accolades in her career. It’s her second career award in two weeks. It’s also the third consecutive week Colorado State has had at least one athlete win the honor. Here is a look at the Rams’ Athlete of the Week award winners this season.
April 1 – Trevor Brown (110- and 400-meter hurdles)
April 8 – Trevor Brown and Jessica Sharbono
