Track & field, cross country teams shine academically

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Colorado State track & field and cross country teams are entering the 2015 spring semester with an outstanding academic record, boasting a cumulative grade point average above a 3.0.
Cumulative GPA is a team's combined GPA over the athletes' entire academic careers at Colorado State. Here's a look at the four team's cumulative GPA's:
- Women's cross country: 3.45
- Men's cross country: 3.39
- Women's track & field: 3.25
- Men's track & field: 3.17
With over 100 athletes on the track & field squad, maintaining a 3.0 GPA is an incredible feat. Fourteen athletes: Jefferson Abbey, Alex Dillenbeck, Andrew Goodman, Sam Guinn, Adam Hartman, Byron Jones, Ricardo Kaempfen, Jerrell Mock, Justin Weinmeister, Tyler Shultz, Alex Hess, Roxy Trotter, Kendall Horan and Gabby Pajak each earned a perfect 4.0 during the fall semester.
Below are each team's respective term GPA's after the fall semester:
- Men's cross country: 3.41
- Women's cross country: 3.41
- Men's track & field: 3.18
- Women's track & field: 3.29
CSU teams ranked in the top 100
Both the Colorado State men's and women's track & field teams entered the 2015 indoor season ranked in the top 100 in the United States Track & Field Cross Country Coaches' Association polls. Bolstered by returning throwers Kiah Hicks and Aaliyah Pete, the women rank 47th, while the men enter the year at No. 74.
Classes resume Tuesday for the beginning of the spring semester. Colorado State travels to Colorado Springs Thursday for the AFA Combined Events Meet followed by the Air Force Invitational, which begins on Friday.
