FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State’s four divers will head to Colorado Springs for the Air Force Diving Invitational, beginning Friday. The two-day meet will feature competitors from all over the region, and should provide a good test for the Rams as the Mountain West Conference Championships approach.
CSU’s four divers (freshman Madison Gess, sophomore Nicole Sisco, senior Emily Williams and sophomore Flori Witenstein) will have the opportunity to showcase their talents in all three diving disciplines – the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard and the platform dive.
“It will be a good experience for them,” CSU diving coach Chelsea Popplewell said. “The majority of our divers are young, so they haven’t had a ton of experience at meets like this. There’s going to be 60-plus divers at every event. It’s going to be very different than a dual-meet format, which will be good for them.”
Popplewell believes that the format, which is unlike anything the Rams have competed at this season, will provide the Rams a good learning experience in a large setting.
“This will be bigger than the Mountain West meet in terms of the number of competitors, so it’s a good practice headed into the conference meet and being prepared for that atmosphere,” Popplewell stated.
