Four Rams ranked in the top five in their event in program history with performances on Friday

GOLDEN, Colo./USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – Performances in the heptathlon, sprints and hurdles highlighted a collection of competent marks for the Colorado State track & field team as the Rams concluded action at the Mines Alumni Classic & Multi and the Air Force Holiday Open.

Senior Nick Kravec led the heptathlon after day one at the Mines Alumni Classic & Multi, and never relinquished that lead as he topped the field with 5,507 points. Kravec's tally ranks fifth in program history.

Freshman Destinee Rocker highlighted performances by Colorado State hurdlers on Friday, finishing as the top collegian in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.44. Rocker's time in her 60-meter hurdles debut ranks as the third-best by any women's athlete in program history.

The Rams went 1-2 in the women's 60 meters, as Jessica Ozoude and Marybeth Sant topped that field in each of their respective debuts. Each clocked a time of 7.48, which ranks fifth in program history.

in women's pole vault competition, each of Gabby Smith and Aliya Simpson cleared 12-5.5 (3.80m). That mark is a new indoor best for Simpson, and ranks fifth on CSU's all-time indoor list.

Alex Blaho won two events on Friday, taking the top spots in each of the weight throw (59-1.25/18.01m) and the shot put (57-4.75/17.49m). The Rams also took the top spot in the women's shot put, as freshman Tarynn Sieg debuted with a mark of 47-4.25 (14.43m). Sieg's mark ranks 12th in program history, while Blaho's shot put mark ranks 15th.

Rounding out the top events for Colorado State was the women's triple jump. The top three collegians were Rams, as McKenzie Wright cleared 39-5 (12.01m), Tarah Vijayasarathy leapt 39-1.75 (11.93m) and Lindsay Read jumped 38-6.25 (11.74m). Wright also cleared 5-8.75 (1.75m) in the high jump, as did Autumn Gardner, as each placed second. In the men's high jump, Trenton Wallace placed first with a mark of 6-8.75 (2.05m).

IN THEIR WORDS
Colorado State head assistant coach Ryan Baily
On Kravec's performance in the heptathlon:
"Nick competed great today – his confidence was great and his composure was great. He wanted to win the meet, and he did, but there's still some things that we can work on to put him in position for nationals. He's had a very successful career, and he's scored over 5,400 points twice in the heptathlon, but what's special about today is that before now he had never won a collegiate meet. One thing that was particularly special was that he had to fight off CU's Andrew Ghizzone, and he was able to and win the meet championship."

Colorado State sprints and hurdles coach Karim Abdel Wahab
On performances by Ozoude, Rocker and Sant:
"It's amazing to see Marybeth in the 7.4s in the 60 meters in her first meet, For Jessica, that's a PR and for Destinee, her PR after high school was 8.8. For her to PR by four tenths of a second in the season opener…that can tell you something about what we've been doing in the fall. Their performances today reflect their fall training and their buy-in to our program."

NOTES
- Before Friday, Nick Kravec's previous personal best in the heptathlon was 5,469. He tallied that score at the same meet last season.
- Prior to Friday, Alex Blaho's previous best in the indoor shot put was 55-9.75, which he recorded on the opening weekend of last season.
