FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Colorado State senior diver Emily Williams participated in the 1-meter dive at the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships on Tuesday in Flagstaff, Ariz.

Some of the nation's most talented divers were on display, including 2016 U.S. Olympian Kassidy Cook (Stanford), and Sharae Zheng (Nevada), the reigning NCAA Champion in both springboard events.

Williams placed 39th in the 1-meter springboard, finishing with a score of 219.60.

"I think Emily finished her diving career on a high note," CSU diving coach Chelsea Popplewell stated. "We were hoping to nail a complete list and we came close, getting five of six. She was right in the middle of the pack for the entire meet and she stayed consistent."

The meet was the final one as a competitive diver for Williams, who was able to go out with a positive attitude and a smile on her face.

"Going into my last championship meet, I was looking to just go and have fun," Williams said. "I knew that I had worked hard for the past four years to get to this point. In past years, as a competitor I always had the stress of what was to come next. This time, I just had to leave it all on the boards."

Williams was among some of the very best divers in the nation in Flagstaff, but the Laramie, Wyo., native was not deterred.

"It was a good experience to compete against the best in the nation, but when it's go-time I just try to focus on what I have to do," Williams said.

"The competition in Zone E is incredible both talent-wise and in depth, so I was really happy that she didn't let that get to her and how she was able to dive like she does every day," Popplewell added about her lone senior diver.

Williams picked up four first-place finishes in dual meets in her final season as a Ram, and the future for the four-time Academic All-Mountain West recipient is bright.

"Emily has had such a good career here at Colorado State both in the pool and even more out of the pool, and I am excited to see where she goes from here," Popplewell said.
