Launch party planned today from 2-6 p.m. at New Belgium Brewing in Fort Collins
FORT COLLINS, Colo.—New Belgium Brewing will host a launch party today to introduce Old Aggie Superior Lager, a collaboration between the Fort Collins-based brewer and Colorado State University. The event is scheduled from 2-6 p.m. and will feature music by Guerilla Fanfare.
The launch party also will feature a quarterback target throwing contest to win more than $300 in Old Aggie gear and a drawing to win a Fat Tire Cruiser. The launch party is free and entrants must be over 21 to participate. Colorado State Athletics will have a ticket sales table, corn hole games, a Dress Like a Ram station and appearances by the CSU Cheerleaders and CAM the Ram.
The New Belgium Tasting Room will remain open until 8 p.m. on Saturday. Earlier in the day, CSU mascot CAM the Ram will make appearances at several locations that offer Old Aggie Superior Lager: Campus West Liquors (12-12:30 p.m.), Road 34 (12:45-1:15) and Lucky Joe's (1:30-2).
New Belgium Brewing and Colorado State University announced in May the collaboration to produce a one-of-a-kind collaborative beer, Old Aggie Superior Lager. Packaging for the crisp, golden lager prominently features Colorado State's ram mascot, with a green and orange vintage color scheme that evokes the school's rich agricultural history and tradition. The beer will be a year-round offering available for distribution only in Colorado.
The University will receive a portion of the proceeds from sales of Old Aggie Superior Lager, which will be divided equally between CSU's Fermentation Science and Technology Program, CSU Athletics, and alcohol awareness and education efforts for CSU students.
This beer will celebrate many years of partnership between the two Fort Collins institutions. New Belgium brewers hold adjunct positions and teach courses in CSU's Fermentation Science and Technology program, and more than 100 CSU alumni are currently working at New Belgium.
In 2015 New Belgium and brewery co-founder Kim Jordan gifted $1 million for renovations to the Fermentation Sciences lab on campus, and in 2016 New Belgium contributed $4 million toward construction of Colorado State's new stadium. The Porch, a New Belgium-branded tap room housed within the stadium, is set to open later this summer.
