ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Colorado State men's golf moved up five spots from the first 18 in the afternoon round and is currently tied for fourth after 36 holes of the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate, Sept. 22. The two-day, 54-hole tournament, hosted by the University of New Mexico, is being played at UNM's Championship Course (Par 72 – 7,556 yards) in Albuquerque, N.M.
Playing in their second tournament in just five days, the Rams had rough patches in the morning round, shooting a 7-over 295 to sit in ninth place. However, the conditions worsened in the afternoon with increased wind and rain, but CSU held tough and improved one shot in the second 18 to move up five places to a tie for fourth at 13-over 589 with Arizona. The 294 was the second-lowest score in the afternoon, one shot behind leader UNLV's 293 that gave the Rebels a two-round total of 1-under 575. Washington is in second at 5-over 581, followed by BYU at 10-over 586, three shots ahead of the Rams and Wildcats. Host New Mexico and Mountain West-foe San Diego State are tied for sixth, three shots back of CSU.
"Today was a very typical day at the Tucker, very challenging," head coach Christian Newton said.. "We did a great job in some tough conditions. The morning wasnt quite up to our expectations, but the afternoon round showed how good this group can be."
